At what age can my child be left alone?

The following is information from MN Statute:

  • Children may not be left alone for any period of time when they are 7 years old and under. 
  • At ages 8-10, they cannot be left alone for more than 3 hours. 
  • At ages 11-13,  they cannot be left alone for more than 12 hours 
  • At ages 14-15, they cannot be left alone for more than 24 hours 
  • At ages 16-17, they may be left alone for more than 24 hours with a plan in place concerning how to respond to an emergency and having an adult accessible who can respond to an emergency.
